DANCE ECOLOGY

“Inside each one of us there is a mostly hidden, mostly golden, mostly eternal image or aspect of being, similar to the gold that is buried in the earth. We are the earthlings, the children of the earth, and therefore we are a replica, in a sense, of the earth itself. One of the ideas that is important is: As above, so below. As outside, so within.”

II. EVOLUTIONARY DANCE

Adapted from 'The Remembering' of Joanna Macy.

How old are we, really? What memories do our bodies contain of this long evolutionary journey we are participating in?  How does it feel to let our bodies move with our ancient bones? How might it inform us when we move curiously into the sensations that might arise when we touch upon our primal making? Our bodies know of a constant evolution, how can this evolution be awakened and felt, remembered and inspire us today?

What to expect:

A 4 hour movement journey which include a 2 hour deep dive into a guided process. This deep meditational movement journey touches upon different parts of our evolutionary process as a living species on this planet. We touch upon timelines stretching backwards to being a fish in the water, developing gills, to walking on land as apes, to standing. We explore (recommended with eyes closed in the beginning of the guided journey leading to developing sight) development of our spine, how our senses got developed in accordance with the landscapes and challenges we had to face as a species. We also touch upon our deep kin relationship with other cousin species.

Through this journey we gather information through our bodies, where at the end of this process we share in couples the movements we found through this process and in pairs.

We allow ourselves to be moved from within outwards through this whole process. I advise the participants to express in full, vocally and physically, what they find through the journey.

Who is it for:

  • Educators

  • Activists change-makers

  • People working in the field of environment and ecology

  • Dancers/Performers wishing to be inspired by primal movements and expressions.

Minimum people: 6

Maximum: 30

Requirements:

A warm studio space, wide enough to let enough people move freely at times blindfolded. Sound system for music.

Possible in Nature but a very clear contained space (with boundaries) is required.

Cost: 300-400 euros in conversation

I. DANCING BELONGING

(Developed particularly for women, can be adapted to all humans)

This full day journey holds space for people to move through the quest of Belonging.

Belonging to oneself, to each other and the earth. It allows participants to immerse themselves in the emotions that rise in response to this topic within the context of the land they move upon then to give these emotions form through dance.

We create an intentional space where we can allow our bodies to talk beyond the intellect, be inspired and in trust in its nature, and to be curious and inspired about what we are made of. We widen our sense of self and move with and through inner and outer landscapes with our senses heightened.

What to expect:

This day starts at an early hour (6am). The group begins with the question of Belonging followed by a personal nature walk through the landscape. The participants are encouraged to observe shapes, where they get drawn to, how they move through it, textures as well as feel through what sensations may arise inside of them and what shapes their bodies want to form.

"Am i moving or being moved? Am i dreaming or being dreamed? The desert crawled into my skin and told me stories of something very ancient, of a movement that my ancestors did and for a moment it felt like we danced together as one"

Tamar, participant on Dancing Belonging

On their return to the group, in pairs one is blindfolded and moves slowly through the landscape in the knowing they are watched and cared for, whereas time to time the partner guides them to touch a part of the landscape. The participants are requested to respond through all their senses and allow physical movement to constantly be in flux.

The next phase of the journey is focused on bringing movements to the group of which they collected from their journey, these movements are taught to the wider group and together we create a group choreography which is then repeated as a form of ritual.

The group closes by working with clay and sharing at the same time what belonging feels to them. They leave with an object of clay which infused into it is they discovered.

Time frame :

6 hours of movement, an hour and a half lunch break.

Who is it for:

  • Lovers and explorers of movement/intelligence of the body

  • People who want to explore what the wisdom of their bodies

  • Performers / dancers which who to develop more movement capacities which arise from their sensuous body

  • People that work in the field of activism, change-makers which want to explore the unknown and widen their skills of active listening

Amount of people:

6 minimum

20 maximum

Requirements:

A warm studio space, wide enough to let enough people move freely at times blindfolded. Sound system for music.

Possible in Nature but a very clear contained space (with boundaries) is required.

Dance Ecology is a creative approach to identifying the processes, systems, maps and poetry of the embodied mind, where the body is constantly, simultaneously engaged with one's self and one's immediate surrounding environments, experienced as embedded within the world's ecological system. This practice aims to expand the perception of dance practice into the spiritual and emotional senses and encourages to revitalize the intelligence and the wisdom that is inherent in the landscape of our bodies.

III. HumaNature

HumaNature dance sessions invite the question "What is our Human Nature?"

With intention we curiously reconnect to our inner sensations in an intimate way and explore ways to express it outwards, exploring ways of bridging the emotional body, physical body and the mental body. In these guided sessions we are in continuas movement. We open our experience to the vulnerability which might arise when following authenticity and the intelligence of change we have inherent within us.

Through the dance we explore and express this constant flux discovering what our bodies want to say. Outer stimulus in these sessions are music, work in pairs (being seen and seeing, holding and being held), at times being blindfolded and led, spoken words from the guide which aim to raise awareness of our senses, instincts and the opportunity to widen our sense of self.

What ever we find in these session - we give it to the Dance.
