CURRENT PROJECTS

Human Theatre

THE HUMAN THEATRE, Israel/Palestine, (2016-Present)

The HumanTheatre is a community platform formed in 2016 by Lotan Sapir, afterwards joined by Nahar Eliya Mendelson. The project aims to provide a safe space for Humans to investigate and express what it means to be a human being in today's IsraelPalestine. Our goal is to create performances that will bring people together, challenge the statuesque and bring out our multifaceted truth.

In the last two years the Human Theatre has been running a 5 to 7 month intensive program which committed participants bring forward to the creative space the question - what does it means to be human on this land. The participants learn and investigate this through the art of  : Clown (panchinco), physical theatre, pantomime, Michael chechov, social clowning, Laban, Storytelling. At the end of this process the participants create a final piece with they have found through the months and share it with a wider community.

The program's vision is to hold:

  • A Safe Space

The goal of the HumanTheatre is to create a supportive and brave space for people to bring in any aspect of their lives which they would like to explore through performance. We, the creators of this program, want to create this safe place specifically in IsraelPalestine today. Currently, on this part of earth, it is not a simple task to stay sensitive, to speak up when needed, to be vulnerable and to be willing to change. Creative practice is one way that we can insist on keeping our hearts and minds sensitive and flexible.

  • A Space for Building Trust

Trust is a crucial component within the creative process and, of course, within relationship building. We will cultivate trust through creating an ensemble and strengthening the relationships between each other and with ourselves. We will do so through playing, telling stories, listening and learning together.

  • Create Community Impact

The creative process constantly challenges and changes the artists themselves and has the potential to stir, shake and heal communities. Our work will be shared in the streets and on the stage with the goal of expanding our safe and vulnerable space to include audience and community members.

At this point in time the Human Theatre run shorter masterclasses and programs of weekends to 10 week processes.

Women Tongue

WOMEN TONGUE, Israel\Palestine- (January 2019 -Present)

“What does it mean to be a woman in IsraelPalestine today?”

Deep Ecology/ Work That Reconnects and Performance for women

As a performer, facilitator and ritual-creator I hold spaces for the expression and transformation of deep seated emotions into acts of creative celebration. I ask myself what is the role that performers have in the world today? Who is the performer that asks themselves what is my role in the world? What is my responsibility as an artist? Am I moved by what I see around me? What space do I need in order to touch upon what I care about, to be vulnerable, and to create a daring performance piece with what I find there?

I would like to offer a safe space for women to ask and create with these questions.

This process will entail 2 (or 3) full weekends, 6 hours of workshopping daily.

Every weekend will entail:

  • A guided exercise developed by Joanna Macy (The Work That Reconnects)

In The Work That Reconnects processes we speak the truth of what we see, honor the emotions that are there when we look at what is happening in our world and tap into our creativity.

This creates a safe space to bring up to the surface what we care of and be used as preparation work in order to enter personal questioning and finding of materials for performance.

  • Guided creative exploration using physical performance techniques, image theatre, movement exercises around individual responses to the theme.

  • The creation of a short performance score.

At the end of the 3 weekends, there shall be a sharing with a wider audience of what was created in the sessions together.

This is an invitation for women who:

  • Have a performance background

  • Wish to self develop a performance piece around topics which move them

  • Wish to create in a supportive group context

  • Seek an opportunity to try raw material with audience

  • Have been exploring these themes and looks for an opportunity to dive deeper

Circle of Future Grandmothers

CIRCLE OF FUTURE GRANDMOTHERS, On-line/Every two weeks (2017-)

46301162_2266552833576862_44203049514822

The Circle of Future Grandmothers is all at once a community, a space to meet one another, a sharing of our story and a collective body of work on the vision we hold for the future of our world.

We bring the practical elements of Ecotherapy and Joanna Macy’s 'Work That Reconnects' to life, doing exercises together which help us to release into what it means to live as a Future Grandmother. To not only talk about the benefits of ecotherapy, but to live it, to feel the energy of our Earth rushing through our veins and soaking into our bones. To walk this earth in a way that channels the wisdom of past and future generations; that when we grow old and our faces are wrinkled, we are full of the pure wisdom and fulfillment of a life well lived. To not be afraid of the passing of time, but to surrender to it.

The Circle is currently hosted in the form of monthly webinars on Zoom (get a free Zoom account here: www.zoom.us). We encourage grounding of the work through written, drawn, spoken or danced reflections and publish selected reflections on our website to build the body of work on which future Grandmothers can draw on as inspiration.
